David L. Robertson

I am a retired land use/environmental law attorney living in Davis, California.

Throughout my legal career, I have engaged in photographic pursuits, including
maintaining a personal black and white film darkroom beginning in the late 70’s. I
converted solely to digital photography in 2003. In 2015, I began a transition from
landscape and cityscape photography to portrait photography after being inspired by
attending multiple workshops with the world-renowned portrait photographer, Greg
Gorman. Greg taught me how to employ light and shadow on the human figure. I have my own portrait studio in Davis, where I now teach studio lighting.

My work has been included in eight recent exhibits in the PRAXIS Gallery in Minneapolis, Minnesota,  twelve issues of Black & White magazine, including the upcoming February 2026 issue, and in many group shows in various states and in Berlin, Germany.

I will be appearing in the Main Gallery at Viewpoint Photographic Art Center in Sacramento, California for the month of August 2026, with one other photographer.

I have recently decided to return to my photographic roots of landscape, cityscape, abstract and street photography, and have added aerial photography recently.
